My husband and I were playing the Mayberry Trivia game last nite. One question
was true or false and asked this-True or False-Thelma Lou punched Barney in the
nose. I answered false. But the answer was true on the card. So, when did
Thelma Lou punch Barney in the nose? I sure can't
Hey, Mayberry friends. Recently, on The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (on the Suspense
Network), I spotted Robert Emhart, AKA Malcolm Tucker and also the Foster
Furniture Polish owner, playing a small town business tycoon. His chauffer (and
muscle) was our own Goober, George Lindsey. It's hard to
That would be the episode A Date for Gomer, when a date was arranged between
Gomer and Thelma Lou's cousin, Mary Grace. After Gomer had seemingly bailed on
Mary Grace and the other four were on their way to the dance, you hear the
sound of a whack from the back seat and then we see Barney
I like the show Man in a Hurry. It might be good for a class of 8th graders.
It shows a slower pace on a Sunday, a man in a hurry, and how the folks of
Mayberry help a stranger.

While Aunt Bee is telling Andy how brilliant he is in dealing with the Boones,
Andy is using a spoon to sample what's cooking on the stove. As they continue
to talk, Aunt Bee comes over, takes the spoon from his hand, and uses it to
stir what's in the pot. Returning a utinsel to the food
In one episode Barney wanted to have a little fun with Thelma Lou in the
backseat of the squad car and you could hear her give him a loud slap. He
came out of the car holding his nose with a hanky and Andy asked him if he
was OK. I imagine this is what they were referring to.

Hey Brenda, Thelma Lou apparently socks or slaps Barney in the nose in the
back of the squad car on the way home from the Chamber of Commerce dance in
A Date for Gomer. I agree, it seems out of character, but she was plenty
mad that night. In the end, it all worked out because Mary Grace was

What episode can I show as a first experience to help future classes hit the
road running? In other words, what single episode does the best job
introducing the characters and helping first-timers grasp the spirit of
Mayberry?
I would have to suggest the episode Mayberry Goes Hollywood.

I did notice during the color episodes, there appears to be a display of Citgo
motor oil in the window at Wally's. I have so far not spotted any Cities

Hello All
When I taught College Psychology I used the show on several occasions. When I
used citizen's arrest, to problem solve, it was successful. Another was opie
the birdman. This was for my behavior modification class. When I taught
Multicultural Psych, I used several movies but all
The one where opie gets the job but then purposely gets fired might be a good
one. Being in color might be a good reason too because I don't know how much
the kids these days follow black and white shows. But I have always loved the
ending when Andy tells Opie you're a man.
Another good one
