Ken, the reason Goober pumped so little gas with the Mayberry population being
what it was, is because people lived close by to one another , most hung uptown
but more importantly if you lived in Mayberry why would you want to leave town

Floyd's Barber Shop, The Diner, Fred's Drugstore, the courthouse, the Mayberry
Cinema, Mr. Goss's drycleaning store, and Mr. Foley's butcher shop

School buses would not have bought gas from a service station. Back then as
now, they had their own tanks and pumps, bought fuel wholesale and filled
the buses daily themselves.
Farmers bought their gas in bulk from a distributor, no road tax, since
farm tractors seldom used the highways but
I believe there are other service stations, it's just that our favorite
characters only patronized the one we know and love, Wally's.
