Sharon, I too hated to see the look on ole' Barn's face when he found out
Thelma Lou was married. I guess we have to realize that when Don Knotts left
the show, they may not have known whether he would ever be back for any future
episodes and when they wrote the reunion show Thelma Lou leaving
I've been reading everyone's theories as to why Barney left Thelma Lou the way
he did. I just kinda thought that he was rather insecure about their
relationship (kinda like some of the episodes where he'd doubt his abilities to
capture someone on escape) and thought he might get his heart broke
I tend to be in the crowd that thinks Thelma Lou knew about Juanita, or at
least suspected. It's just that Barney didn't flaunt Juanita in her face,
where as the fun girls were right there interrupting Thelma Lou's and Barney's
plans. It appeared that Barney and Andy were standing up Thelma Lo
Thelma Lou may have been the only girl for Barney but he sure messed up
when he let her get away. How long is a girl supposed to wait??? I felt
sorry for him when Thel brought her new husband to the class reunion but
he didn't stay sad very long, his ego got built up and he was dancing
away. Mary
Thelma Lou has complained that Barney never takes her anywhere. Barney
could take a lesson from me. I have been married to my lovely wife for 39
years and I have taken her many places over those years. Problem is, she
keeps finding her way back.

Yes...I believe Barney loved "Ol Thel above all others. In fact, he never
loved anyone else. The reason I believe Barney didn't marry Thelma Lou was not
only a fear of commitment but also his need to be a big shot. You know, like
he wanted to be a big fish in a big pond and that overrode his
t a peck on the cheek, mind you, but a
bona fide smacker full on the lips. One was as she was leaving the court house
after the anniversary celebration, and the other was while Barney was hanging
in Andy's closet. So I asked myself, How many other times do we see Barney and
Thelma Lou
