So while Opie is taking his piano lesson from Clara Edwards, Aunt Bee is in
the next room with Mrs. Larch doing needlepoint.Aunt Bee turns to Mrs.
Larch, and says "You know you bear the most uncanny resemblance to my sister

This mention of the Taylors having a piano bench one time and a piano stool
the next reminded me of something else I've previously noticed. In one
episode, the Taylors' dining room table, which is usually rectangular, is
instead round. Maybe they switched it with the kitchen table. Anybody
know
Orville Hendricks you brought up that the Taylors had a piano bench one time
and a stool another time. When I read that, I got reminded of the episode with
Aunt Nora and Uncle Ollie. When they are eating dinner, the boys are sitting
on the piano bench at the table. This feels so real because
Did Helen's niece, that cute little girl who kept outdoing Opie on
everything, play their piano? I don't remember.Meanwhile, when flipping
thru the channels recently I came upon an episode of Star Trek in which the
city scene reminded me somewhat of Mayberry so I lingered and who should

In answer to the piano playing at Andys house the others were Opie taylor who
was taking lessons from Clara Edwards, Arnold Bailey who took Opies place for
his lesson and Biff Conway the pro football player who played the piano and
impressed Andy. There were 2 more you forgot about Thelma Lou
Well, I put my thinking bucket back on and I came up with one more person
who played the Taylor piano that I had forgotten about. Thelma Lou played
it when they tried to sing good old 14A without Barney. But that is the
only one I can think of so Paul really has be stumped this time.
Unless
I remember Thelma Lou playing the Taylor's piano in Barney and the Choir
episode.
Barney wanted to practice good old 14A and told Thelma Lou she could
tickle the old ivories.
Another question---it's been discussed here before but exactly which lady
choir member is actually Andy's wife
singing
OK, here are the correct answers folks have given so far:
1. Aunt Bee in Aunt Bee's Medicine Man
2. Thelma Lou in Barney and the Choir
3. Andy in Barney's Physical
4. Clara in Opie's Group
5., 6., 7., Opie, Arnold and Flip Conroy in Opie's Piano Lesson
No one has yet named the eighth person, so

Paul, I am a piano teacher and often notice that when the piano is being
'played', hands tend to be at the wrong side of middle C for the notes that
are heard. Some appear to really be playing, like when Andy plunked out a
few, Opie attempting to play and Flip Conroy.

Well Ken, all nine of those folks you mentioned were seen playing a piano in
Mayberry, but not all of them played the TAYLORS' piano, which I did specify in

Someone asked the other day if Frances Bavier / Aunt Bee actually played the
piano. Now I may not know much about cars and guns, but I do know about pianos.
Almost without exception, whenever we see a character on TAGS (or any TV show)
playing the piano, they are just faking it. Reta Shaw

In reguards to the picture on the piano in front of Aunt Bee. I believe this
is simply some sheet music and nothing to do with the Taylor family. Lots of

I noticed when Andy visited the Williams' to check into buying the place
that their piano was against an outside wall. So happens the wall had the

Since the truth has come out about the harmonica, it brings up another question.
Did Aunt Bea really play the piano (Aunt bea's Medicine Man)?
And did Jim Lindsay play the guitar?
Or was it the actor of the man/woman?
