I haven't followed the Digest too much recently. My wife is disabled and
I'm her caregiver and time just get away from me. Recently though, I did
see the talk about Andy, Barney ,and Aunt Bee going to the local dump at
night to search for some copies of Opie's newspaper. The main focus seemed
like seeing the top of the Desilu studios
across the street behind Andy's house on the 40 acre lot, etc.
I guess one could say it "hones our noticin' skills." :)

Elizabeth, you're a scream! I wouldn't put it past Aunt Bee to have done
that! And thanks to Michael for his informative insight into the
tv writing industry; I surely did not know all that stuff; puts a whole
new light on things for sure!!!
Aunt Bee of Orlando
Maybe Aunt Bee snuck out of the house through the kitchen and hid in the
back of the squad car, then got out after Andy parked and got out.

After repeated viewings throughout our lifetimes of the beloved episodes of
The Andy Griffith Show, the mistakes (Barney's different middle names and
years of service) and logic lapses (just how did Aunt Bee get out to the
dump anyway?) seem to crash through our TV screens like a rock chucked
Elizabeth, this is just another example of poor writing by those who
crafted the episode scripts for TAGS back then. I've noticed so many
examples in recent months I lost count. I think because we've watched
them so many times and are devoted fans of Mayberry that it makes it

In 'Opie's newspaper', when they go to the dump to see that the newspaper
is destroyed, Andy drives the squad car, Barney says he needs to get Gobers
truck back to him and Aunt Bee just shows up at the county dump. How did
she get there. Usually the dump is several miles out of town
Also, at the end they were all looking for page two in the city dump. How
many episodes have a scene where they are at the city dump in them?
Thanks.
In The Lucky Letter, Andy finds Barney at the dump and helps him look for the
chain letter he threw away.

I enjoy the episodes when Andy and Barn (and Aunt Bee once) are hanging out at
the City Dump.
The bent old car parts (Old Buzzy Leonard's, I believe), the Playboy-type mag
(BARNEY!! ... although Andy certainly enjoyed a good look or two at the female
form) and the all-around messy look. Reminds
I have wondered about Aunt Bee leaving Opie alone too, and how she got there.
As for Barn, didn't he use the excuse of having to return Goober's car? (Which
brings up another question, what car did Goober have? I know he had the
truck...and what happened to Andy's truck that was in the
Hey! I just watched the episode where Andy and Barney and Aunt Bee end up at
the dump trying to find the second page of gossip from Opie's newsletter. Since
I'm pretty sure Opie said goodnight and went to bed, does that mean that Aunt
Bee left him alone to go to the dump? And since she didn't
