I sharpened my programming "teeth" in MS-DOS and TANDY DOS with GW-BASIC
( god have mercy and protect me from bloddy line numbers and AUTONUM
commands ). I also learned C++ ( the very old and not so lamented
Borland C++ ) on DOS 6.22 ( boy was that an advance huh? the wonderful
MS antivirus tha
Virtual PC or IBM's VMware, will both allow you use run Linux & Windows side
by side and 'share' files with one of the OS running in the virtual machine.
Just make sure you have plenty of ram.
I run a lot of stuff in Virtual PC because I do not want beta software
running directly on my production
