Nothing stops direct hits. A spark that traveled through miles of air isn't really going to care what else is between it and the ground. Good ground is the lifesaver for nearby hits that induce wild voltages. And following the code is always best for the health and safety of the people. Jo

Alan, I gave up on the inexpensive Wi-Fi cams. However, the best I've found is the Panasonic BL-C30A. It pans almost 180 degrees left and right and nearly that up and down by rotating a little ball in the case, not by rotating the case. It's VGA but better than others and never needs rebooting (
