Does anyone know what causes the swarming behavior in wasps around
towers. I dont mean a few of them hanging out having a smoke and
sharpening their stingers. I mean the big swarms of hundreds. We
were at 4 different locations yesterday. All of them were unclimbable
due to swarms of
You gotta be really careful climbing. They like to build vertical nests
in the big poles that hold up the cellular arrays...

Look at the APC EMU. They are like $250 or so, and has inputs for
open/closed circuits and outputs for relays.

I'm not an RF guy, but I've been told that any frequency that divides into
the frequency you are using evenly has the potential to interfere.
For example, if you are using 900MHz, then 450MHz, which divides into 900MHz
evenly could interfere. Same for 150MHz.

I personally don't think its the RF that attracts them. I have been on many
towers and tanks with no antennas mounted and still have to deal with my
little friends. Personally I think its the heat that the metal draws from
the sun and the static electricity present on the face of the steel.

What precautions does OSHA expect for these type situation, that unarguabley
have safety issues.
Do they want the climbers to wear some sort of protective clothing, more
than what they normally wear?

I've been looking at an open source application called backuppc and
considering offering remote backup service to some customers. I
appreciate the wisdom and experience of the group here. Any
suggestions on how best to offer this service? Any software
suggestions for this? I would like to
Not Open-source, but we are currently using Nova-Web (www.novastor.com).
I'ts not cheap, but it does provide everything you could want including open
file and MSSQL backup without having to shut down your databases.

All I can say is that we have been doing off site remote backups for several

I wonder what we are doing wrong then, we have been using RBS for 3
years, and it has been a pita. The scheduling problems have been the
major problem (its scheduler is crap for us). Are you using the RBS
native task scheduler, or running via Windows's task scheduler?

I have only used the native scheduler that comes with the software. The
scheduler could be improved - - like having a password on it to prevent
changes without authorization.
That is the only time we have had any sort of problem - -was when someone

Does anybody have a web page up that lists common consumers items
that interfere with unlicensed wireless?
For instance, I mentioned a house that had something putting out a

I've seen that here too. No idea what the cause is.
In situations like that we just get up really early in the morn and work
before it warms up.
I HATE those danged things. Never had them around here till the last
several years. I'd never even seen one as a kid.

Marlon,
I think the cause might be global swarming...

Tie a few Bounce sheets to your harness and your belt and spray the back of

We use handy backup. It's not really popular yet.
We may be over charging for space. The bitch of it is that people could
totally screw our network up with all of the backups, even if they backup to

On my main tower, the big problem this time of year is starlings, by the Alfred
Hitchcock movie full! They fill their beeks full of pine nuts, then park on my
tower and . . . Well, you get the idea. I'm shoveling pine nuts off my roof.
Luckily they only hang around here for a couple months.
We have a few customers we do backups for as well. We moved away from Handy
Backup and use believe it or not Winzip ! - Has more features and
customization for the remote backup process I find.
