Witango-Talk: Way Off Topic - Daily Boot

2005-02-15 Thread webdude
I am in a heated debate with a new fellow worker and I need some ammo on this one. Sorry for the off-topic post... I have always been under the assumption that it was harder on a computer to reboot it every day then to leave it running and maybe boot it weekly or monthly. Our company recently

Yeah, way off topic, but I'll chime in. All this booting stuff is no longer relevant. It's the equivalent of an 'old wives tale'. In the past there were major reasons for turning them off: 1) Monitors didn't turn off/darken/sleep, and when left on, literally burned out. Same for hard drives,

Thx. I tried several things and concluded that purgecache didn't agree with the documentation. Glad that 5.5 now works, but I'm on v5. I have been manually purging the entire cache whenever I made updates, but was looking for an automated, selective purge to integrate with a perl script I

Consider solving this problem by programming a virtual directory in your websites, say /purge - since it's virtual, no one will see it and you'll be able to hit it. You can point all your websites to the same physical folder. Then you can make whatever app you want call the url

Think this came up once before. Worth a look through the archives. The challenge is to find the string that represents an URL, which begins with http:// and ends with the first space after that. Tricky. On 2/15/05 9:04 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I got one that is bugging

My opinion is if it is Windows 98 or below, reboot daily. If you are using ME, NT, 2000, then upgrade. I only reboot my XP machines once a month or less. Troy Sosamon -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, February 15, 2005 5:29 AM To:

Seems we are way way off topic All good points but why not just have all your employees turn off their computers and monitors each night or at a minimum sleep them. Save some electricity which in turn, over the life cycle of the machine, will prevent the production of a heap of greenhouse
