Hi,
Our msi overwrite OS components (in c:\Program Files\Common Files). When we run

My software requires adding an environment variable that points to
it's installed location:
Obviously INSTALLDIR isn't expanded here, since it isn't known until
the installer is run.
How can I have the environment variable set like this?

Okay, thanks. I added an extra page after the Welcome dialog with the
confirm/cancel message. Just one more page for the users to click
through I guess :)

Phil,
Thanks for reply. First thing I would like to mention that my old Installer
is Installshield Non-MSI ans latest is WiX MSI. I have few limitations also.
Both installers TARGETDIR is same. That is why I wanted to execute custom

Hi,
I'm trying to recreate an old installshield installer with WiX (I'm still new
to both WiX and Windows Installer). The idea is that the 'core' platform and
the 'apps' section of our program will be split into essentially two serperate
programs with the 'core' part being a prerequisite to ins
Dears,
I hope you are fine and doing well.
Thanks for the answers. They really taught me things.
It seems that I can use these when there is no Dialogs. I mean if I write an
installer to copy some files with no dialog shown to user, this works.
But when I put this code into the WiXUI library t
Is there any particular reason heat creates a ComponentGroup with -

Also, with -sfrag, heat creates a top-level Directory tag. Without, it
creates a top-level DirectoryRef tag. DirectoryRef is very useful in a
fragment. Directory, not so much.

out why the upgrade failed. Your custom action solution will not work in the

I used Paraffin to create a Fragment containing files & directories that
need to be installed. One of the directories is empty but needs to show up
on the target computer. The empty directory is in the Paraffin generated
Fragment. When I build the MSI file and run it, the empty directory does not

Hi,
I have a custom action DLL. This DLL has some WinAPI calls and if any error
comes I want to log it to msi logs. Following is the sample code I am using.

Really? Thanks for that, I thought that the product ID always had to be
fixed so the MSI could find previous versions. How does the installer find a
previous version if I change the Product ID?
What I am trying to do is just force a major upgrade every time.

One option we're looking at is that due to the potential for database
