Yes, Henrik - this turned out to be the issue - when I made it a
tag, it became as he wanted - much narrower

Is the font in an tag?
If so are you specifying font-weight: normal?
If it's part of the logo, and it has to be spot-on, then an image may
be your only option.

Note that font-weight wont always reduce the line width.
You could also try embedding a font.
