software that's actively developed, more lightweight and more suitable
for terminal servers. But LXDE is great too; I really love both of
them. :)

then add an applications menu with only the applications I wish to run
locally.

Is there such a thing? If not, perhaps it would be worth considering.
That way, we could file bugs and do bug triage, freeing up time for
the core developers. It would also be nice if we could see which bugs
are open so that we may work on closing them if we have time and
competence to do so.
