Hi: JDK 5.0 supports DOM Level 3, instead of DOM Level 2 which was supported in JDK 1.4.X . As FYI, JAXP 1.3 which is part of JDK 5.0 supports DOm Level 3, whereas JDK 1.4.X supported JAXP 1.2 ( which supported DOM Level 2 ) W3C DOM working group added methods to the existing interface
