Hi,
I'm seeing a number of new compilation fails on the conf tests with

Hi,
This bug was just reported against the version of Xalan
integrated into Sun's JDK 1.4.1.
Is this a valid problem and does it still apply to
the current Xalan? If so, I'll put it in bugzilla.

I think this should be clarified on JAXP side, since this problem

the active page

Hi,
By now we are all becoming familiar with the story that there are problems attempting
to run the latest Xalan from Apache with Sun's 1.4.x JDK because an older version
of Xalan (2.2D11) is built into the rt.jar along with the Crimson parser.

Hi,
I don't understand why this was needed. Also, why wouldn't
the path just include xsltc.jar, since it includes the
contents of the erstwhile xslt related jars, like bcel.jar,
runtime.jar, etc all rolled up into the one xsltc.jar?

Hi Linda,
The problem may be caused by the fact that java 1.4.1 has the Xalan classes
from Xalan 2.2.D11 embedded in its rt.jar file. To override that version
of Xalan with the version that you've been using, copy your xalan.jar

It sounds like you think XSLTC is related to Xalan-C. XSLTC
is a component of Xalan-J2 and is Java based. Its objective is
to archieve better performance by compiling stylesheets into
java byte-code, called translets, and then running tranformations
with the translets.

Hi,
I'm confused by this. The bug that was fixed was in XSLTC, not
Xalan, and yet the stack dump shows you are running Xalan,
and not XSLTC. Just want to make sure the problem isn't
with XSLTC.

Another backdoor you can use with JDK1.4 to override the xalan classes in
the rt.jar is to create a directory called "endorsed" under
$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib
and put the xalan and xerces jars in there.

Hi Joe,
After talking to you on the phone, I collected more
information on the problems I'm seeing that may reflect
an incompatibility using post Xalan-Java 2.2.D13 and
Xerces-Java 2.0.0 Beta 3.
I ran Xalan over java fullversion 1.3.1_01 and had only
xalan.jar (from current CVS) and xerces.j
Just wanted to inform everyone that I just
removed the xml.jar file from the CVS repository.
It had been included in the build for use by
XSLTC, but that is no longer the case. So it
shouldn't be included in the build.

Does anyone know the answer?

Sorry the documentation is out of date.
XSLTC has been enhanced to support result
tree fragments as node sets. You don't have
to use a special extension. Just assign the
RTF to a variable and use it as if it were
a node set.

Ooops. Scatch that. Just saw Morten's reply. I've
been so deep into bugs for so long, I missed the
obvious. No bug is a good thing.

Hi John,
I had tested the command line options a long time ago.
Looks like they need to be revisited. Are you asking
if anyone else has tried it because you don't believe
your eyes? Do you want to put in a bug?
Tom
Hi Toni,
Very good catch. I verified the problem with today's build and
searched the conf test suite to see if there was a test for
this. There was not. I'll file the bug and add the test to
the conf test suite.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for sending the files. I know what the problem is and
you can work around it for now. The stylesheet has a hypen
in the name (site-chooser.xsl). The generated class file
and auxilliary files get the basename site_chooser. So
the class is not being found. For now could you nam
Shane,
I may be able to help on this. We were trying to test
Xalan D10 on a recent Solaris build which had Xalan
built into the rt.jar. We were able to get the JVM
to use the version of Xalan we wanted by using the

Hi Rob,
Here's an example of an XSLTC servlet using TrAX that
may help you figure things out.

I've found the sample servlet XSLTServletWithParams.java to
be very helpful. I modified the following block in an attempt
to implement a template for performance gains, but have a
feeling that I'm missing something.
if (xslSource != null) // Now do we have a stylesheet?
