Yes, you should be able to use it. I have used it on an old laptop with SuSE
7.3. I had it set up as an AX.25 device and it works fine with xastir. I'm not
sure if the Kubuntu kernel is configured for AX25 devices. If not, I think you
can get Xastir to talk to SoundModem as a "Serial Kiss TNC",

Is there a file that can be edited to configure the start and stop

know about it.
You enter a station call sign and SSID into the system, the system
tracks down the station via APRS, and IDs which IRLP node the station
could use. The system then notifies both station with a text message, of
One more thing: Make sure "Select Tactical Calls only" is NOT checked

Hi Mike.
Well you could delete your ~/.xastir/config/xastir.cnf file. This is where all
your configuration information is stored (also might be a couple of back-ups
xastir.cnf.1, xastir.cnf.2..)BUT then you will have to re-configure everything.
Do you still have data coming in? (have a look at

problems there. Feeling confidant enough to try in Linux so enter my
foray with Xastir. Last night I finally got it running and displaying
