When I build xastir-1.9.3-2008-* on Ubuntu 8.03 the build fails because it

Yes. To be honest I've been lazy and have used the xastir package that
is in Ubuntu (1.

~/.xastir, and unmount the drive. So far, everything has been written but the
copy portion.
