My Fedora Core 5 reports:
openmotif-2.3.0-0.1.9.2
And with this package, I don't see the text labels on the
File>Configure>Timing window. I had downloaded and installed OpenMotif
as an additional package (it didn't come with Core 5).
I don't have lesstif installed.

I was going to ask how you compiled Xastir since you didn't have
openmotif-devel, but now I don't have to.

BACKWARDS!!
FC dropped openmotif, not lesstif - my bad.

Yup, Curt's suggestion of:
rpm -qa | grep tif
Will tell you. But, that command can take some time run as it has to go
through every package installed on your system.
You can shorten it all by running:
rpm -q openmotif
or
rpm -q lesstif
Results, almost immediate. BUT! You *MUST* get the pack
Fedora Core 5 is what I'm running.
I'll try that command and see what it shows.

Using what Linux?
If an RPM-based system, use:
rpm -q -a | grep -i motif

Ok. Good data point. On OpenSuSE-10.0 I've not had this problem
with OpenMotif-2.2.3.
It might be worth and upgrade/downgrade of OpenMotif to see where
the problem lies.
I am having the problem with openmotif on opensuse 10.2
Openmotif 2.3.0 beta2
Also, were there a few out there that had the missing
Configure->Timing labels when compiled with OpenMotif? I seem to
remember that one or two people had that problem, while all the
others with it w

Correct. There's no way that ANY program can set the proper bits in
the packet unless they're talking KISS. We need direct access to
the packet header bits.
You ca
If I remember correctly, if your TNC isn't KISS, xastir can't use it
to digipeat. Xastir's digi function is a bit limited, and not really
intended to take the place of a full-up digipeater.

I made my 1st APRS transmission with an ancient HK232 last night. It
seemed to work!
But I'm confused about a menu item that sets up some operational aspect
of Xastir. There's setup window for what appeared to be timing of
messages or beacons... I'm guessing. There was no text in the setup
