Hi Steve,
After you upgrade from 2.5 to 2.6, have you run ANY makedns command? if no
makedns was used, then your existing DNS settings will not be changed.
Note:
If you want to keep the existing DNS settings made by xCAT BIND, then you
should not run makedns commands. If you want to use the Dyn
Hi Randy,
Have you done xcatdb restore after you installed xcat2.6?
As lissa said, from xcat 2.6.0, the only shipped dnshandler is ddns,
bind.pm has been removed. So if you did not restore xcatdb from a earlier
backup, then after xcat 2.6.0 is installed, xcat will set
site.dnshandler=ddns aut
Luis, you are correct!
The backup/restore will overwrite the site table, that's why you did not
see site.dnshandler=ddns in your cluster, hehe. While I'm thinking your
experience just gives me a hint, I need to find a place either in xcat doc
or in the release notes to notify the user to manua
Here's so more stuff i found:

Dear Sun,

Basically, i have a system that is fully up and running with 2.5.x. But i
had to take a away a couple of nodes so i could create another cluster for
some co-workers...

Try disabling the syslog postscript.
This sounds like something reported a while back. No good solution or
explanation ev

Hi Luis,
xCAT can set site.dnshandler to ddns automatically for two scenarios:
1. Fresh install for xCAT 2.6
2. Update install for xCAT 2.6 from a existing lower level xCAT version.
Is your install the #1 or #2? or could you tell me how you installed xcat
2.6? I will see if it's a bug.
For your
Yes, I agree with you, the xCAT-server/share/xcat/postscripts is no longer
used, the postscripts are now shipped with RPM xCAT instead of xCAT-server.
I searched the xCAT-server.spec and did not see anything about
share/xcat/postscripts and the rpm -qf /install/postscripts does how RPM
xCAT owns th
Oh k, i found out that i need to define a "dnshandler" as "ddns" in
the site table!
But i'm now running into this problem:
[root@xcat xcat_tables]# makedns blade02
blade02: Error: Unable to find zone to hold blade02
blade02: Error: Unable to find reverse zone to hold blade02
[root@xcat xcat_tables
Dear all,
I've installed xCAT from the following repo in my CentOS 5.6 system:
http://xcat.sourceforge.net/yum/2.6/xcat-core
And i'm having trouble getting DNS to work...
It is my understanding that DNS changed in 2.6 and we now use dyndns
or something, right?
Can someone point me to some docume
Hi.
Could someone confirm my belief that the files in the xCAT source
subdirectory xCAT-server/share/xcat/postscripts are no longer used?
The files in that subdirectory appear to be maintained now in
xCAT/postscripts (along with a lot more scripts).
Thanks

That looks like a bug. We need to run makedhcp when restarting xcatd on a
service node to be sure the dhcpd.conf and leases files are up to date, but
seems we're taking a slightly different code path that misses the
"disjointdhcps" processing.I'll open another defect...
(For those that know
Service Node pools are supported for diskfull node installs. One other
check is sharedtftp=0 in the site table, otherwise

The noderes table defines the servicenode assignment for nodes. So you
would define a nodegroup and put it in the noderes table w
