I think that for default font lookup any downloaded fonts should be copied
into either /Library/Fonts or ~/Library/Fonts. FontBook "installs" fonts in
the latter directory. But "font installation" is nothing mo

Yes, this has been mentioned more than once here, but not yet in this
thread. Since XeTeX provides more than just two font renderers it
would not make it

Two mistakes: don't copy, and don't copy into the system's own

Possibly you could try to install the font Scheherazade-AAT with font
book, so that it will appear in the list of fonts, that are is extant
in the different applications. Or may be that it works, if you delete
the option Script=Arabic from the \newfontfamily\arabicfont com
