Hi all,
I have been using XeLaTeX for a while now. Most of my materials are in English,
or mixed Japanese and English. Until now, I have been using the following setup:
- XeLaTeX + fontspec
- linebreaking in Japanese:
\XeTeXlinebreaklocale "ja"
\XeTeXlinebreakskip=0em plus 0.1em minus 0.01em
Probably a combination of fontspec and xeCJK. I haven't used xeCJK
extensively since I haven't typeset many documents requiring CJK, but the
package is still being developed, unlike zhspacing, which doesn't look like
it's been updated since 2008. I could translate the documentation for you,

Boldface is needed - it is used in almost all Japanese text books,
for sections headers etc.
