I believe I have found a bug in the Darwin distribution of XFree86. The problem occurs on OS X 10.3.2, but I think it applies to every version of Panther. I have no log file to send as it is not appropriate, and I do not know how to get it to generate one when this problem occurs. The

number of 2.6 test/stable kernels with xfree devel snapshots since early october, have
only had this problem when I updated to 2.6.2 and it disappeared when I updated that
to 2.6.3.
