Sorry if this cross posts to any, or too many, people...I was not sure to
which list this question is most applicable...indeed, it may be that the
nvidia list is the way to go, but I have never received a reply to any
question posed to that list; so I apologize if this seems to take

I am having a terrible time configuring XFree86
My *exact* monitor is not listed (I have a Sony Multiscan seII -- Sony
GDM-20SE2T)
XFree86 configurator under RH8.0 lists only the GDM-20SE2TS (specs are
same...but the monitor was not *found*) -- is there a patch available? Is
one necessary?
Cynthia,
I (had already) updated to 4.3 (with no ostensible errors) before that log
was written; that log should reflect that. ?
In any case, I installed rh8.0 last night in hopes of improved
performance...now neither my monitor, its specs, or my card is recognized.
Go figure.

Among other cards that XFree86 version 4.3.0 pruports to support (and
which are subsequently listed once the version is installed) the SiS300
video chip is mentioned.
Tho the installation of this version (on RH7.3) of XFree is not without
error on my machine (apparently libglide2x.so is

Support for the 300 has been included in X since at least 3.3.6. Please send
us you Xfree86.0.log file (/var/log/XFree86.0.log) so that we can help
figure out why its not working.

To Whom! ;)
Ijust installed Xfree86 version 4.3.0 on a system with RH7.3 and a video
card with a SiS300 chipset (SiS301 onboard for dual monitors) (installed
ver 4.3 cuz the native Xfree86 did not support the SiS300, and this
version did list support).
Upon install, the message was: no

there are Linux drivers for the high-end nv cards (the ones that support 2
screens (dual-head capabilities -GeForce4 Ti on up) but dunno if that
helps you...but I am having a terrible time finding support for dual head
capabilities on less expensive, lower end cards from any supplier --
