Hi! I'm running XFree86 4.3.0 on Slackware 9 w/ 2.4.21-ac4 kernel,
gcc-3.3, and glibc-2.3.2. XFree86 runs fine at 1280x1024 resolution.
Recently, I've been running into problems starting X clients and I get
this message printed to stdout (when I run the client from a shell
window):
Xlib: connec

Is the use of "ttmkfdir" still needed for TrueType font configuration with
XFRee86 4.3.0? ttmkfdir isn't mentioned in the current online doc for
installing TrueType fonts:
http://www.xfree86.org/~dawes/4.3.0/fonts2.html#9
Thanks...
Peace...

Hi! I've just installed XFree86 4.5.0 RC1 on my Slackware 8 based Linux system
and so far it's running great! :)
I tried running Gimp 2.2.3 and it complained about the fontconfig library being
too old. I had fontconfig 2.2.x installed before installing XFree86 4.5.0 RC1
and it seems the XFre

Hi! Ok, I'm now running XFree86 4.5.0 RC2 woo-hoo! :)
I ran "XFree86 -configure" and it sniffed out my display gear and created a
XF86Config.new file. I tried it out and find I like the manually tweaked
settings in my XFree86 4.4.0 XF86Config file better (I run at a higher

Ok, when I read the man pages on XFree86 (man XFree86), the "-configure" option
is described:
-configure
When this option is specified, the XFree86 server loads all video driver
modules, probes for available hardware, and writes out an initial XF86Config(5x)
file based on what was detected. T

I understand now. Thanks for the info. :)

Hi! I´ve been running XFree86 4.5.0 on my Linux system since it was
first release without problems. I replaced an old Nec XE17 monitor with
a Dell E771a this morning and I can no longer get X to start in
[EMAIL PROTECTED] resolution. It will crank up to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (I
believe) max.

Hi! I just installed the XFree86 4.5.99.901 snapshot (which fixed my
xterm installation problem, thanks guys! :)) and it runs fine. I
wanted to try the "-autoconfig" option to see what it would do and it
generated these messages:

Will do and I'll report my findings here. :)

Ok, that worked just fine, using the original, unpatched XFree86 code.
The attached XF86Config.

Yep.

I believe so, but it seems to happen when I issue the Ctrl-Alt-F7 key
sequence. Other Ctrl-Alt-Fn keysequences (like Ctrl-Alt-F3) do nothing.
