Now for troubleshooting, which I hope you don't need! Follow the steps I've already posted. Run startx with both monitors connected. Hopefully you'll end up with half a display. If you can't reach the exit button, use CTRL-ALT-BKSP to terminate the X server. Now go and run: less /var/log/XFree86.

So in answer to Paul's questions earlier (hopefully he's following this thread): You probably won't have to recompile your kernel. Only the loadable kernel module from ATI needs to be recompiled, and that's through the two scripts mentioned in previous posts. You won't see the agpgart kernel

I am impressed and depressed. I assume that you were having the same "device not found" problem I am having with my ATI Radeon 9000 Pro. I tried making the changes you suggested with no result. I have not recompiled the kernel yet. And I haven't seen anything like a suggestion in the documentat
