Your XF86Config file says to use a font server, yet one doesn't appear to be running. Run xfs or put a font path in the Section "Files" of the XF86Config. eg. FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11
