jected spam going through the XMail server to SpamCop, and
don't want the mismatch to inadvertently point to the machine as a spam
source or relay.
I remain unsure how to get what I want, and don't want to lose any
messages while experimenting .

This is also a *lot* less resource intensive that using a filter.
For concrete evidence, check the smtp log. Every rejected message will
have a status indicating rejection, e.g.:

authenticating via POP before sending mail.

To upgrade from 1.12 to 1.17 on Windows, it appears to me that one must:
1. Add the filters.in.tab and filters.out.tab files.
2. Update filters for new return codes.
3. Replace XMail.exe.
Am I missing anything?
