Hello everyone,
I'm pretty new to the *nix/FreeBSD OS thing and would like get your feedback
on what XFree86 config utility I should use in order to build my config
file.
I just freshly installed the latest XFree86-4 on FreeBSD and would like to
find out which is the best to use for this Xserver

I am trying to use gnome2 with the mga overlay option turned on. For some
reason, the AA fonts fail only when overlay is turned on, but work fine when
X is run in normal 24bit mode. It appears that the render extension is not
getting loaded or is not found when overlay is turned on. Is this
I am astounded by the lack of resources (as reported by google)

Folks:
I've been experiencing the following problem when using recent versions
of the X server while also connecting to a network via a PC Card NIC.
The X server itself runs correctly, but after shutdown it seems to hang
the console driver until I eject the PC Card (PCMCIA).
A typical sequence o
We are currently having Xserver crashes with both Matrox G400 and G450's
using XFree86 4.2.0 on stock RH71 machines ( plus XF4.2.0, of course ).
ARE there any dual headed AGP video cards that can be reasonably guaranteed
not to have any problems? I prefer to stay away from any proprietary
driver

I have a Logitech Optical WheelMouse Model M-BJ58
With the below entries in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 I get ALMOST full mouse
function.
The only problem is that the scroll-up events are not working. I checked
this by using xev as recommmended elsewhere on this list.
In gnome and KDE 3 the mouse but

I am using 4.2.0. Actually, it is not apps like XMMS that are turning black

Hi
I am a newbie.. to this group.
I am doing a localization in X. Here, I need to send
the backspace event and also some display item to the display.
That is,

some glyph(character) should be displayed in that lo

Hi,
I have an app running on a remote machine that needs to pop up some
windows - I can not avoid that. Is there a way to fool this app into
beliveing that it has a display but really the windows it opens would be
thrown away?

The first user logs in through xdm, but the second user is in a different room (or not even the same building) but will telnet to the machine and start the build (which needs access to the X server).
Is there a good reason why an `xhost +localhost` in the first user's .xinitrc wouldn't work?
Hello Sanal,
As you look in the archives of his mailing list than you can see that there
are at least three threads upon this subject.
The built-in RENDER module of the X server v4.2 allocates that much colour
in the colour map so that nothing is left for other applications.
We installed v4.1 ag

I am using the XFree86 driver, yet I had tried the
Matrox supplied driver on a dual 1 Ghz P3 with a
Matrox G450 and had worst performance than with the
XFree86 supplied driver.
Hi,
I'm using Xfree 4.2.0 with a 17" Screen and TNT2 graphics card.
Everything works fine, but two things are annoying and I don't know how to
get along with them:
1) I don't know how to set the refresh rate to 100mhz @ 1152x864. Currently
my X is running with about 60hz - that's realy §%§$%

Hi,
I have two doubts..Plz help me out in getting clarified with your inputs.

what gets created while building kdrive doesnot touch the source of these
