That might be relevant. Did you use Xinerama with X 4.0? Does the root
image thing work under 4.1 with single-headed display?

I do the same with kdm, and it's exactly the same except the file in
question is /etc/X11/kdm/Xservers. kdm is wonderful if you're used to
xdm, because it's the same only much prettier. (And lets you select
your session type with a pulldown menu.)

I never get a normal mouse pointer now; it's always a white 64x64 box,
except in XEmacs where it's grey (XEmacs' background colour).
Is this a known problem? Might it be a bug in the mga driver? This is
the Debian 4.1.0-6 package of XFree86.
Thanks again!

VC. Can I make
it change the mode of VC 7? (Yes, I know this is a Linux framebuffer
question, but I thought I'd take a chance here.) I ask because I'd like
to avoid endless reboots just to get the mode timings the sync between
my FB VCs and X.
Thanks for the tips --

witching between X VCs be just like switching between console VCs in
the same mode, ie. more-or-less instantaneous?
(Suffering from Mac OS X envy after seeing a friend's new toy -- what
really impressed me was the nearly instantaneous switching from the Mac
OS desktop to X running WindowMaker... ;-
