The period in "eth0.1" is indicative of a VLAN sub-interface, which uses 802.1q tagging (so you have to configure a switch to Tag the other VLAN ID's), whereas the colon in "eth0:1" is indicative of an additional IP on the eth0 interface, in the same vlan. Delete the eth0.1, and add an eth0:1.
