1. sorry for the delay in replying.
2. the reason that I was originally using zfs destroy was that beadm destroy
failed.
3. Current state of affairs:

Will, thanks for the info on the 'zfs get origin' command. I had previously
tried to promote the BEs but saw no effect. I can now see with 'origin' that
there is a sequential promotion scheme and some fo the BEs had to be promoted
twice to free them from their life of servitude and disgrace.
Please if anyone can help with this mess, I'd appreciate it.

I am having trouble with zfs, if I scrub the pool, i get cksum errors.
I f I scrub, "zpool clear rpool" and then re-scrub, the cksum errors remain.
this appears to be a systematic error and not hardware related.
I am also having trouble with beadm create. please see:

provided a concise solution
basically, after an excruciating download of the sxce_b94.iso, I was able to
boot from the dvd, "zpool import -f rpool".
this gave me failures to mount x4 "unable to create mount point". s
So, it looks like only snv94 is capable of understanding the "upgraded" zfs
pool.

Machine is running x86 snv_94 after recent upgrade from opensolaris 2008.05.
ZFS and zpool reported no troubles except suggesting upgrade for from ver.10 to
ver.11. seemed like a good idea at the time. system up for several days after
that point then took down for some unrelated maintenance.
