WEBSPHERE STUDIO UPDATE HIGHLIGHTS VISUAL DESIGN | CRN
Late last week IBM upgraded its WebSphere Studio tools suite, adding
new application design and Web site development functionality. The
highlight of WebSphere Studio 5.1 is a UML visual editor, a precursor
to more model-driven Java development that enables developers to see
how bits of Java code fit together.

IT, THEREFORE IM | SearchCIO.com
Instant messaging -- you can't beat it, so join it. Or at least learn

LOVSAN MADE SOME PAY DEARLY | SearchWin2000.com
So the U.S. government isn't Chicken Little after all. The sky hasn't
exactly fallen, although it's a lot more foreboding for some IT
administrators caught in the downpour known as Lovsan.

A WEARABLE SMART CARD? | Domino Definition Dare

This piece of "jewelry" was introduced at the JavaOne conference in
1998 and contains small microprocessor with built-in capabilities for
the user/wearer. The work with specialized readers built into or
connected to household devices or other computers. Although these
handy-dandy, itty-bitty gadgets aren't widely worn yet, they have
many uses in the real world -- including having your car set your
radio, seat position and temperature to your preferences when you
start it.

THE MISSING LINK: Welcome to the '90s, Mr. Blair

What does Tony Blair have in common with Fidel Castro and Zimbabwe
President Robert Mugabe? None of these guys has an e-mail address. In
fact, Blair may be the only non-Third World leader without an inbox.
But 10 Downing Street is about to enter the 1990s. Blair is getting
an e-mail address later this month. At least this new one will be
legit; Blair's opponents recently set up [EMAIL PROTECTED]
as a joke -- and as a hint that it was high time for the PM to join
the digital age. Maybe next month he'll get a CD player.
