LEAD STORY

"Sun 'opportunistic' on storage acquisitions-ceo"

about becoming more successful in the data storage business. Toward
that end, McNealy said Sun will continue to look into acquiring

[1.] "NAS market tempts telco supplier"
A traditional telco supplier firmly planted in the Solaris platform
made a surprising discovery when it was developing new middleware
technology. The technology could be applied to a NAS architecture.
However, while the company is moving forward to promote its find,
penetrating the established NAS market may not be so easy.

[2.] "Chip-sale slump deepens"
Executives at Sun Microsystems are undoubtedly taking note of the
fact that computer chip sales are steadily decreasing all over the
world. Global chip sales fell 7 percent between February and March,
and this is part of a larger trend that began last November, the
Semiconductor Industry Association said today. The association says a
weaker economy and an oversupply of chips are at the heart of the
matter.

[3.] "Adobe workers get compulsory vacation"
Sun Microsystems isn't the only IT industry player that needs to save
money. Adobe Systems is forcing nearly 2000 employees to take a
vacation during the first month of July. The announcement comes less
than a week after Sun made a similar move.

A look at an off-the-wall story from the Web...

"Big Brother beverage tracker"
A study claims the cash from as many as four drinks in every
750-milliliter bottle of liquor fails to make it into the register,
due to sloppy bartending. Now VitaLink, producer of the study and the
"Plug 'N Pour" Beverage Tracker System, believes it has an answer for
over-generous drink makers and parsimonious publicans. It's Plug "N
Pour is a high-tech pour spout that keeps track of every drink poured
via an embedded microchip and wireless radio transmitter. Some
bartenders say it takes the creativity out of their jobs. "No more
freestyle pouring," said Danny Norway, director of the Professional
Bartenders School in San Francisco.
