"SHAME IN YOU SCOTT" -- SUN USERS PRINT THEIR PEEVE | CNET
Mere grousing has given way to outright outrage -- and published
outrage at that. A group of Sun users has taken out an ad in the "San
Jose Mercury News" and asked Sun CEO Scott McNealy to make Solaris 9
more available on Intel. The title of their ad/open letter to
McNealy: "Shame on you, Scott."

SUN PLANNING OFFENSIVE AGAINST MS? | The Register
Sun is spilling a few beans at a time about its plans to tackle
Microsoft's share of the desktop and entry level server market. The
company is saving most of the details for the SunNetwork conference
later this month, but judging from what execs have been saying, the
company is planning a suite of both open source and proprietary
software products to take on Microsoft.

MICROSOFT, UNISYS SHOW OFF 64-BIT POWER | CRN
It's kind of like IT's version of a "strongman contest." Microsoft
and Unisys will flex their joint muscles this week and show off what
they're calling the most powerful Windows server: The 64-bit OS
Windows .NET Server 2003, Datacenter Edition and 64-bit SQL Server
running on Unisys' 32-way ES7000 SMP server. These "Unix killers"
will take center stage Wednesday at the Windows.NET Server DevCon
conference.

MAINSOFT LINKS .NET AND UNIX | ServerWatch
Mainsoft is shipping a new product that enables companies to develop
C++ applications using Microsoft Visual Studio.NET and deploy them to
multiple Unix platforms. The product, Visual MainWin 5, promises
multi-platform performance, security, and scalability while providing
an XML foundation for building Web services.

PRICE, PRE-CONFIGURATION CARRY HP INTO ENTRY-LEVEL UNIX FRAY
A Giga Information Group analyst said the price, configurations and
high-end features of HP's new entry-level Unix servers would
encourage current L-, K- and N-Class customers to upgrade. HP also
made competitive strides against Sun's volume-pricing offerings.

THE MISSING LINK | The Net changes the face of termination

Want a pink slip? Want it fast? Check out some Web smut from the
comfort of your cubicle. Or recommend some of your favorite skin
sites to your coworkers (via e-mail, of course). Or if you're not
into that kind of thing, spend lots of time elf bowling or shopping
online. Do just one of those things and you could be on the bullet
train to Bootsville. A new study from the U.K. shows that Internet
and e-mail abuses will get you in hotter water than pilfering office
supplies, lying to the boss or talking smack about the company. In
fact, researchers found more workers got in trouble for Net
naughtiness than for acts of dishonesty, violence or safety
violations. (Reuters)
