SYSADMIN TIP | CAPS swapping

Here's a little script that swaps the ctrl and caps lock keys. It's
great for those of us who get tired of the various keyboard styles.

SUN TO FOLD DEVELOPER PROGRAM INTO IFORCE | CRN
Sun will announce plans to fold its Sun Developer Connection program
for software developers that use Sun's technology into its larger
iForce Partner Program. The move is an attempt to consolidate partner
programs at Sun so partners have one point of contact at Sun and can
work more effectively together.

SUN ONE PARTNERS NONE TOO HAPPY OVER SOFTWARE STRATEGY | CRN
Sun ONE partners are none too happy with the way Sun is (or isn't)
supporting them. They say hardware VARs are still Sun's pets and that
Sun's hardware-loving ways are keeping the company from being a mover
and shaker in the Java software market.

BEA GOES LOW WITH APP SERVERS | InternetWeek
BEA is going low with a pair of low-end application servers for the
department level. WebLogic Express, for developing simple Web apps,
provides access to servlets and JSPs and uses the same code base as
the more upscale WebLogic Server. WebLogic Server Workgroup Edition
has all the J2EE APIs but offers only 20 concurrent connections.

ANALYSTS: SLAMMER NASTY, BUT NOT CATASTROPHIC | CNET
Analysts are trying to measure the cost of Slammer's worldwide
wriggle. One firm estimates that the worm caused up to $1.2 billion
in lost productivity in its first five days, well behind the
estimated wrath of Klez ($9 billion). Another analyst firm calculated
the cost of cleanup, claiming Slammer did $750 million to $1 billion
worth of damage in that context.

SUN: WE'RE YOUR ONE-STOP-SHOPPE FOR STORAGE | CRN
Now that Sun has soaked up Pirus, a maker of storage virtualization
software, the company considers itself your one-stop-shop for
storage. "We think of ourselves as an end-to-end storage vendor,"
said one Sun official in a recent interview. The company also plans
to expand the number of solution providers selling its storage.

FEATURED WHITE PAPER | Beyond Tar: Backup to the future

Backup and recovery tools originally architected on top of tar, dump,
and other native UNIX utilities entered a "box canyon" long ago and
therefore, cannot deliver a seamless and fully integrated solution.
To automate and manage the growing scale and complexity of Unix
business data backups, administrators have to resort to a plethora of
"bolt-on" products.

ASK THE EXPERTS | An explanation of "containers" in Solaris 9

Sun Microsystems' security guru Mark Thacker offers an in-depth
explanation of containers in Solaris 9. In a nutshell, containers is
a concept about how to separate any one user's processes or
applications from others on the same server. For more information on
Solaris 9 containers, click the link below.

THE MISSING LINK | Microsoft, premier maker of worm food

Worms love the apples that come from Washington state, but their love
of Redmond's rich fruit is lusty enough to make Granny Smith blush.
SQL Server proved "good eats" for the Slammer worm and proved that
Microsoft is indeed one of America's premier providers of worm food.
