SUN HAS TWO SURPRISES IN STORE FOR USERS | InfoWorld
Sun is banking on two soon-to-be-announced technologies to take on
stiff competition from HP and IBM. First, Sun is working on a project
code-named Kevlar, which will give users a logical partitioning
technology similar to that of IBM and HP. The company is also
planning to unveil one of its new multicore chip designs for low-end
and midrange servers. Until now, Sun has offered a form of hardware
based partitioning for its servers. Analysts say logical partitioning
will offer Sun users more freedom to create multiple instances of an
operating system on a single server. Sun says users can also expect a
new class of multicore processors that create a miniaturized
symmetric multiprocessing system (SMP) on a single chip.

IBM SPEEDS UP LOW-END UNIX SERVER, PRESSURES SUN | IDG
IBM is stepping up the pressure on Sun in the low-end Unix server
market. Big Blue has announced plans to begin shipping its p630
server with a 1.45GHz Power4+ processor. The new chip represents a
boost over the older, standard Power4 chip, which is still used in
high-end pSeries systems. The p630 with the new chip will be sold in
one, two or four processor configurations.

SUN READYING INTEGRATED WEB SERVICES PLATFORM | InfoWorld
Next month Sun plans to ship a developer's edition of an integrated
Web services platform featuring Sun middleware and development
products that it hopes will promote development of Web services-based
business applications on the Java platform. The offering will feature
the Sun ONE Application Server, Directory Server, Identity Server,
Integration Server, Portal Server, and the Studio development tool.

MICROSOFT TURNS TABLES ON SUN | CNET
Is this a case of "pot, meet kettle"? Microsoft has accused Sun of
unfair competition and asked a judge in California for attorney's
fees and damages to pay for Sun's "bad behavior." MS has accused Sun
of, among other things, breaching its contract and showing bad faith
in its dealings with MS.

IT CAREER EXPERT | Where to search for an IT job

If you're an out-of-work systems or network manager in a saturated
job market like Boston or the Bay Area, you're probably reaching the
breaking point. So it's natural to wonder if it's worth uprooting
your family, abandoning your friends and perhaps selling your house
to go where the jobs are. Before you leap, you should realize that
relocation has serious drawbacks -- especially if the job is your
sole motivation.

THE MISSING LINK | Holland: Land of tulips and file sharing

A company in the Netherlands makes no bones about it. Stealing is its
business. TheHonestThief.com has become the latest file swapper to
hit cyberspace. And if you're into file sharing, going Dutch is the
way to go. The company probably won't go the way of Napster or
Aimster thanks to a Dutch court ruling that has pretty much turned
Holland into file-sharing central. "Call it file sharing or
shoplifting, here in Holland we call it good business," said the
chief "Thief." (CNET)
