You have to choose which firewall to use: the RH one, or the rp-pppoe
one. You have to disable the other one. To disable the RH one: chkconfig
ipchains off. To disable the rp-pppoe one, find the line that begins
with FIREWALL=, and put NONE.

In /etc/ntp.conf, remove the lines:
server        127.127.1.0     # local clock
fudge 127.127.1.0 stratum 10  

and replace them with this line:
server some.time.server

Be sure you don't have a /etc/ntp/step-tickers file, it will slow down
the startup time.
