Hrmm, 
I don't remember ever seeing dependency errors when installing a new 
kernel. (at least none relating to conflicts with the old kernel, at any 
rate)
I normally do:
rpm -Fvh kernel-headers*.rpm  kernel-source*.rpm
rpm -ivh kernel*.rpm

On 7.2 that even adds the new kernel to /etc/grub.conf

Can you install the 'old' kernel rpm again? That would probably be the 
easiest solution, if it's a possibility.
