Have you upgraded kde from the version included with Red Hat 7.1? If I remember correctly, this was a bug in kde 2.2-1. If you type 'finger' it would often show the logged out kde user as idle 300 days or so. I do remember it happening with 7.1 after I upgraded KDE. It hasn't happened at all with 7.2. Another possibility, have you applied all the Red Hat updates?
