I am running Red Hat 7.1 with Ximian Gnome. My screen freezes-up at the login
screen at least 10% of the time, causing me to power down without shutting
down.

Last night, after another cold shutdown, I was unable to re-boot into Linux.

I got the following message:

"The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem (and not
swap or ufs oe something else), then the superblock is corrupt, and you might
try running e2fsck with an alternative superblock:
e2fsck -b 8193 "

I have tried running fsck and e2fsck as indicated and with some additional
commands indicated when I tried to re-boot with the boot diskette, but so far,
nothing has worked. I am now unable to get into Linux.
I would appreciate some guidance.

Thank you. kjmorris
