I never do upgrade installs without testing in my lab first. I have some 
intensive simulation programs that I run on my blow up box. Be prepared 
for the worse. Experiment, have recovery drills, keep backups in 2 
locations and document your procedures.

When I do upgrades, I always close my eyes and cross my fingers and my 
perl guru leaves the room. You should see how sick he gets.
