Need many more facts than what you want to run.  What laptop, what OS,
what kernel, etc.  Also need to know what exactly you mean by 0-for-3 on
cards that work?  The card has nothing to do with those applications. 
Nor vice-versa.  

fwiw, i have both linux and freebsd on a Thinkpad 600x.  Two 3com
cards.  Linux works fine with my 10/100 cardbus card but I had trouble
with the bsd and that card.  Not being even remotely adept with *nix
when i built the system, I simply used an older pcmcia card that bsd
played nicely with.

All 3 apps run on the box nicely.
