There are essentially two different ways to use PGP with an e-mail
message. First, you can encrypt a message for a specific recipient
(or recipients). In order to do this you must have the public key of
each person you want to send the message to. Second, you can sign a
message with your private key to validate that the message came from
you (not an imposter) and to validate that the message has not been
altered since you composed it. You can also to a combination of both,
which is valuable too.

So, if you want the message to be private and only viewed by specific
recipients, you click the button for PGP encryption and select the
public keys of the recipients from the list. If you just want the
message to be validated as being sent by you but readable by anyone,
you can click on the PGP signature button. The header you describe
below is an example of what appears at the top of a PGP _signed_
message, like this one I send now. The PGP signature can be found at
the bottom of the message text.
