during my OS scan project found at www.mrcorp.net, I found the xp firewall so far to
be a good solution for home users. The only thing that I have noticed is that file
sharing and netbios can become problematic if the firewall is turned on in default.
However, the firewall is configurable and the problem can be remedied.

The one other point many people bring up is that it will not monitor outbound traffic.
That is the traffic that leaves your machine and goes to the internet, or wherever.

When I scanned the XP system with the firewall on in default state, nessus and nmap
both failed to get good information. So, with that in mind, I consider it a good
solution for home users.

I have not seen any discussion of suitability of the
XP "firewall" feature for home users. Any comments
are welcome. It's not real configurable or robust,
but sure is simple to impliment (which should be a
warning, I guess ;)
