It uses the OpenPGP standard and there appears to be good client side support for it (mutt, pine, kmail, etc.) in the *IX world - though I admit I haven't had much experience using it in the Windows or Mac worlds. I suspect it's just as functional under Mac OS/X as it is under Linux/*BSD/Solaris.
