Another program is Radmin. This program can be configured to use either the Windows user accounts to login or just a password to login. Various access rights are available, since you don't want the student to have complete control you can assign the account or login view only. The default port can be changed and logging is available. We use this product to remotely administrate some of our servers. Hope this helps.
