Would love to test out Nessus but unfortunately it requires
a UNIX box for the scanner and as yet I don't have a spare
one. Hopefully in the very near future.

I have tried LANguard and found it to be a great tool but
with limitations. I did a scan with LANguard and one with
Advanced Administrative Tools from G-lock Software and
found many differences between what the two scanners
reported. The LANguard tool is very easy to use and
provides an impressive amount of information but does not
by default scan all ports. You must enter each port (beyond
the default ones) manually.

As for vulnerability scanning, among the list of tools that
I have tried so far the LANguard tool is by far the best
for the price. Retina by eEye Digital Security works well
also but can get VERY expensive. Especially for a large
diverse environment.
Today I obtained a copy of Internet Scanner from Internet
Security Systems (ISS) and will be testing it out as well.

Will also look at the Pentasafe products.

Are there any others that I might try? I am searching for
the best "bang for the buck" that I can get.

Dan

try LanGuard http://www.gfi.com/lannetscan/index.htm
It seems to work pretty good, in the options just change
the ports to scan
to whatever you want or load a port list from a file and
you'll be all set.

I would like to be able to scan *NIX machines for
vulnerabilities from a WIN 2K Pro machine VIA the internet
or a network. Are there any tools capable of doing this?
