Because you have added the mcaffe.com tag in messenger, so it keeps a
connection open to it. I saw the same thing happen to me and it drove
me crazy at first until I realized what was happening. And it doesn't
protect you from viruses automatically, the connection is just to keep
the mcafee page on msn messenger up to date.

Subject: MSN Messenger connected to xp.mcafee.com

Hi:

Why would I have a persistent connection open to xp.mcafee.com:80 from
MSN Messenger (msmsgs.exe)? I am using Win2K Workstation and MSN
Messenger 4.6.0077. Am I being protected from viruses automatically?

TIA, Rajesh
