Dear colleagues,

First of all a Happy New Year to everyone! May this year herald a new dawn as we throw off the shackles of the pandemic.

Sorry, a couple of days late with the monthly email reminding you of upcoming EMinars.

Yesterday we had an excellent presentation from Alan Chave on "Multitaper Spectral Analysis: State of the Art". You can view the recording of the presentation and download the slide deck from the EMinar web page or on the MTNet Youtube channel.

Next week, on 13th January at 15:00 UT, we have Joel Jansen of Anglo American giving us an update of his highly-acclaimed EXPLO '17 talk on "Natural source EM methods for mineral exploration". Joel looks at not only MT data but also tipper responses and ZTEM data from a very practical perspective.

The week after, on 20th January at 16:00 UT, is the second of the presentations on national MT programmes, this time by Paul Bedrosian on "Unveiling a Continent: The US Array Magnetotelluric Program".

In the final week of January, on 27th January at 16:00 UT, Pierre Wawrzyniak and Farid Smai will give us the first of a number of planned EMinars on code and software. Their presentation is on their freely-available Python code, and is called "Razorback: Open Source Python Library for Robust Processing of Magnetotelluric Data".

I encourage you all to go to the EMinar web page and register for these upcoming webinars, and view the exciting line-up we have until the Summer: http://www.mtnet.info/EMinars/EMinars.html

This year as we started in late-October the EMinars will run to the end of July. Future EMinar Seasons will run for 9 months from mid-September to mid-June, with a (northern hemisphere) Summer break of 3 months. Those months in most years we are all busy with fieldwork and conferences, but not this year...

We do have two empty slots to fill, and are looking for volunteers.

For the final one of the Season (28th July) we are looking for someone to give us all an Educational EMinar on "Interpretation - Tectonic considerations". So we'd like someone with a strong geology background who is using EM/MT to solve tectonic problems. It does not necessarily have to be an "MT person" per se.

For the slot on 7th July we would like to fill it with a topic not covered in the prior EMinars, such as EM/MT studies for oil exploration or geothermal exploration. Talks from an industry perspective are especially welcome.

Also, as you can see we are already beginning to fill slots for the 2021-22 Season. If you are interested please let us know and we can slot you in already.

Very best wishes, and please Stay Safe!!!

Alan, Kate, Max and Stephan
