Well, as I said before, the two things that concern me about using LocalSearch are that it doesn't allow for MediaWiki-style internationalization, and that I don't know how well it can work with user setting of coordinates. I thought before that the latter was the bigger deal, but maybe the former really is a big issue; after all, part of the promise of MediaWiki is that it's meant to be usable by anyone on earth. But if people really think the search-within-the-map is the better approach, I guess we should go with that.
