Ok. It seems I'm not aware yet of all the nice things in the MediaWiki
namespace.
But wouldn't {{#forminput:form_name|size|value|button_text|query_string}}
do the trick then? I used this without form_name (which gives the form
selection pull down) and with 'Create' as button_text, since Edit
doesn't make sence here. Worked fine for me. The value will be $1 so
that the searched name is in the pagename field.
Is that what you wanted?
